Closing date (notification of intent): 16:00 (GMT) on 15 March 2018

Closing date (full proposals): 16:00 (BST) on 1 May 2018

Updated 14 February 2018 - the section on eligibility of Indonesian researchers has been updated (section 4.3.2).

Proposals are invited under the Wallacea Region - Understanding biodiversity & evolutionary responses to environmental change programme. The aim of the programme is to deliver new basic science data leading to greater knowledge and wider approaches to inform effective management, restoration, rehabilitation, and exploitation of the Wallacea region's biodiversity and ecosystems, balancing the need for conservation with economic development, and supporting the social and economic stability of the region.

The programme is a collaboration between NERC and the Ministry of Research, Technology & Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Ristekdikti) and all proposals must be bilateral research projects involving researchers from Indonesia and the UK.

Through the Newton Fund, NERC will provide up to £3·3 million for this call for eligible UK researchers and it is expected that four to five projects, of no more than £700,000 (80% full economic cost) each and for a duration of up to 36 months, will be funded. Matched funding in terms of research effort will be provided for the Indonesian researchers by the partner funding agency, Ristekdikti. This call is paired up with the Kerjasama Luar Negeri (KLN) call.

Please see the Announcement of Opportunity below for full details.
