The final meeting of the NERC Security of Supply of Mineral (SoS) Resources programme celebrated and shared its achievements to researchers and stakeholders at the Royal Society in London on 9 May 2019. Attendance at the meeting was free.

The meeting showcased in a series of keynote presentations what can be achieved in five years of research and was aimed at all those with an interest in the raw materials (for example cobalt, rare earths, tellurium and selenium) for green growth, which are used in low carbon power generation and energy storage.

Recognising that increased demand for these raw materials would put a significant strain on the existing sources of supply, NERC and the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council launched the Security of Supply of Mineral Resources. This funded four projects - external link that would enhance knowledge on the occurrence and processing of the minerals required, so that these can be produced in a more sustainable way and reduce the potential for supply issues to constrain progress towards a low carbon economy in the UK and globally.

In addition, poster exhibitions expanded on the technical and scientific research of the four projects. Watch the SoS Minerals programme introductory video - external link to learn more.

A drinks reception followed the meeting to allow time for networking with the community of researchers, funders and partners that made the Security of Supply of Mineral Resources programme possible.
