NERC-FAPESP joint funding

Satellite image of BrazilNERC and our UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) partners have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FAPESP - external link, the Research Council for the State of São Paulo, Brazil, first signed in 2009. Following initial success of the bilateral research collaboration, the MoU was renewed for a further term (2015-2020).

The purpose of this agreement is to remove barriers to collaboration by enabling a single review process for joint applications in discovery science, and in selected research programmes. Proposals will continue to be accepted on an ongoing basis until the expiry of the MoU on 31 December 2020.

Proposals will be accepted for collaborative research in any single or cross-disciplinary area which fits within the remits of FAPESP and NERC. All applications must be submitted through UKRI's Joint Electronic Submission (Je-S) system.

Information on how to submit a proposal to NERC in collaboration with FAPESP-funded researchers is available in the FAPESP guidance document (PDF) - external link.

Proposals will be accepted through the following NERC discovery science (responsive mode) programmes: Standard research grants, Large research grants, and specific calls as detailed in the relevant announcements of opportunity.
