Announcement of Opportunity: Virtual site surveys for scientific ocean drilling

This call will support desk-based Virtual Site Survey Investigations that rely solely on existing geophysical data and will enable UK researchers to develop strong cases for proposed International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) drilling expeditions.
The total available budget for the call is £300,000, with each project able to claim a maximum of £120,000 at 80% full economic cost. Projects can last up to 12 months in duration.
- be linked with the development of IODP drilling proposals that will have a high level of UK involvement and leadership (e.g. UK Lead Proponent).
- use a mission-specific platform, chosen to fulfil a particular scientific objective.
Investigators may be involved in no more than two applications submitted to this call and only one of these may be as the lead Principal Investigator.
Applications will be assessed during July 2021 by an assessment panel consisting of independent experts and members of the NERC peer Review College where possible. Applicants may be invited to give a presentation at the assessment panel and respond to questions.
To apply you must be:
- from an eligible UK research organisation
- eligible for NERC funding.
Applications must be submitted via the Research Councils' Joint Electronic Submission system (Je-S) by 16:00 BST on 2 June 2021.
