The launch event for the Radioactivity & the Environment (RATE) programme was held on Thursday 6 March 2014.
The afternoon session was open to the wider scientific community, public and press and started with an introduction to the aims and objectives of the programme from the Science Coordination Team and the head of Earth sciences at NERC. This was followed by presentations from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Radioactive Waste Management Ltd (NDA RWMD) and the Environment Agency (EA), as co-funding partners, and by the lead principal investigators of the three funded Consortium grants. The agenda also included information on the two funded Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Challenge Networks that are linked to the programme and on BIGRAD, a NERC-funded consortium project in the same science area.
There was also an opportunity for delegates to meet the funders of the programme and the scientists, to talk with them about the projects.
