CZO Announcement of Opportunity: A UK China Collaboration - Adding value and increasing impact
Closing date: 28 June 2018
NERC and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) currently jointly support a £3 million/60 million RMB research programme on 'Using Critical Zone Science to understand sustaining the ecosystem service of soil and water' (CZO), with contributions from the Newton Fund in the UK. The overarching goal of the programme is to understand and seek ways to address the challenges faced for the delivery of China's ecosystems services in association with their agricultural production and urbanisation.
Further details on activities already funded under the CZO China programme can be found on our live online grants browser - Grants on the Web (GOTW).
This call launches a second phase to promote pathways to impact of the research for which NERC has a budget of £1·1 million (from the Newton fund). The call focuses on supporting UK researchers to work innovatively with Chinese collaborators to transfer and translate knowledge outputs and outcomes within the Critical Zone framework and the Observatories embedded in the Chinese landscape to relevant sectors within the Chinese economy.
Only current participants of the CZO programme are eligible to submit applications to this call as the lead principal investigator. UK funds will specifically be used to support UK researchers, with the expectation that Chinese project partners will bring in-kind support at the equivalent level of effort.
The closing date for applications is 16:00 BST (15:00 UTC) on 28 June 2018.
