NERC, on behalf of UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, India, were pleased to pre-announce a joint call for collaborative research proposals focusing on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment from antimicrobial manufacturing waste.

NERC invited expressions of interest from UK researchers to attend a partnership workshop to provide opportunities for face-to-face networking and develop new collaborations.

The workshop was held in New Delhi, India on 15-17 May 2019. The aims of the partnership workshop were:

  1. To understand the key challenges around AMR in the environment and antimicrobial manufacturing waste, and the relevant research landscapes in the UK and India.

  2. For the funders to present an overview of the call aims and objectives and for participants to discuss and understand the scope.

  3. To facilitate partnerships between the relevant UK and Indian research and innovation communities, and for researchers and industry representatives to network and begin to develop ideas to address the aims of the call.

It was expected that approximately 20 UK participants would be invited to attend and UKRI tried to ensure a balance of different disciplines / expertise and the number of attendees from the same institution.

Further information about the call can be found in the Announcement of Opportunity document below.

The deadline for expressions of interest was 16:00 on 14 April 2019 and invited participants were notified on 16 April 2019. UKRI covered reasonable travel and subsistence costs associated with attending this workshop.

Attendance at the workshop did not automatically enable project bids to be submitted or guarantee funding. Conversely, absence did not preclude bidding into the call.

The closing date for this event was 14 April 2019 and participants have now been selected. A list of participants is available below.
