Interim Chief Operating Officer for NERC announced today
13 June 2019
The NERC Executive Chair, Professor Duncan Wingham, announced today that Nigel Bird will be the interim Chief Operating Officer for NERC.
Nigel will lead NERC's substantial portfolio of infrastructure projects, including the construction of the RRS Sir David Attenborough, now close to completion, and the Governance, Responsibility & Ownership (GRO) programme. All of these are in a very good position to continue to delivery in the near future.
Professor Wingham said:
I am delighted Nigel will step into this role. He brings a wealth of relevant experience within NERC and the research councils, having held a range of senior positions including with the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, the Economic & Social Research Council, UK SBS and NERC. Nigel's previous experience as a finance director and his ongoing role in delivering large infrastructure programmes means we will continue to enjoy a high degree of professionalism and also will provide stability and continuity for our key projects at this important stage.
Mr Bird will take up the post from September 2019.
