BAS wins bronze Athena SWAN award for tackling gender inequality
19 October 2014
NERC is proud to announce that its research centre the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has been awarded a bronze Athena SWAN award in recognition of its work to promote gender equality in higher education.
The Equality Challenge Unit, the organisation behind the scheme, handed out bronze awards to seven institutions - Bournemouth University, BAS, Edge Hill University, the UK Atomic Energy Authority, and the universities of Huddersfield, Hull and Hertfordshire.
BAS is now planning to redouble its efforts in pursuit of a silver award - currently only possessed by seven institutions in the UK.
It joins fellow NERC centres the British Geological Survey and the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, which already possess a bronze Athena SWAN. So too does the University of Southampton Ocean and Earth Science, based at NERC's National Oceanography Centre.
