Announcement of Opportunity: Constructing a Digital Environment
Je-S open date: 18 October 2018
Closing date: 15 November 2018
Projects will need to start by 4 February 2019.
NERC is inviting proposals for feasibility studies costing up to £300,000 at 80% full economic cost, with a maximum duration of 12 months, as part of the Constructing a Digital Environment programme.
Constructing the Digital Environment is a Strategic Priorities Fund programme which is being led by NERC, but is supported by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Defra.
This call is open to existing NERC-funded or EPSRC-funded distributed and instrumented networks which could be incorporated into, or form part of, a digitally enabled environment; an integrated network of sensors (in situ and remote sensing based), methodologies and tools for assessing, analysing, monitoring and forecasting the state of the natural environment at higher spatial resolutions and finer temporal scales than previously possible.
The call is open to anyone who is currently funded by NERC or EPSRC who has used / established a network of sensors as part of that funding. These feasibility studies must be based upon this network of sensors. The NERC funding held can be from any grant call, it is not limited to the 'Network of Sensors' call.
This programme will ultimately bring together environmental research and environment-focused informatics (such as statistics, machine learning and computer science) to improve the understanding, modelling and prediction of events and inform future decision-making.
Further information on the call and how to submit an application can be found in the Announcement of Opportunity document below.
