The research topic of responsive studentships is chosen at the discretion of each student and/or supervisor, and topics can be drawn from any area of the NERC science remit.
Responsive studentship funding forms over three quarters of all NERC studentship and training investment. The current responsive mode studentship schemes can be found below:
DTPs are institutions or consortia offering responsive mode NERC funded studentships. DTPs are outstanding clusters of excellence providing world-class PhD training and offer studentships in a range of areas from the NERC science remit.
Discovery science (responsive mode) large (consortium) grants may also include funding for project students. The research undertaken through a project studentship will be closely aligned with, but independent of the work carried out in the grant. The research topic of large grants can be from any area of the NERC science remit.
